POSITION: AQUACULTURE CONSULTANT (m/w/d)

Full time or part time: Full time

Job location: COFAD HQs in Weilheim, Germany (south of Munich) - or home-based (preferably with ability or willingness to work from the HQ's office at a mutually agreed frequency, especially during the first year

Wage:Competitive, it will reflect experience and qualifications of applicant

Start date: 1st of March 2024 for an unlimited contract after trial period

Candidate: EU citizenship

A JOB THAT INSPIRES YOU

COFAD is seeking an in-house Aquaculture Consultant. Within an international team, you will work on aquaculture projects, financed by different donors or private clients, in Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America. Your tasks will range from acquisition over managing client and expert relations to supporting or participating in implementation.

The expert will report directly to the Managing Director and Technical Directors and will support the aquaculture/fisheries team in their work, from acquisition of new projects (tendering) to managing client relations and the parallel backstopping and/or implementation of projects. COFAD competes for international projects on different continents within the aquaculture sector and these projects can vary in size, from large long-term projects, to smaller consultancies and studies with international donors (EU, AFD, KfW, GIZ, World Bank, etc.).



YOUR TASKS IN BRIEF

Project acqisition

  • Tracking of projects/early intelligence, research of background information;
  • Contact to/networking with donors, clients, partners, and experts;
  • Management and coordination of the acquisition process, including preparation of Expressions of Interest (EoI) and technical proposals, staff recruitment and fee negotiations, identification of consortium partners, support to the preparation of financial proposals;
  • Organisation and lead of fact-finding missions to the recipient countries.

Project implementation

  • Management of projects from a technical and financial point of view;
  • Coordination and supervision of aquaculture / fisheries / Blue Economy projects;
  • Review and preparation of reports;
  • Technical, administrative, and logistical support for the project team on site;
  • Donor, client, partner, and expert management;
  • Undertake consulting assignments (short- and medium-term) in international aquaculture projects.


A BACKGROUND THAT CONVINCES YOU

Your profile

Necesary requirements for the role are as follows:

Previous sector experience: A minimum of five (5) years of experience working in the aquaulture sector either directly or indirectly.

Consultancy experience A minimum of one (1) year of experience working within the consultancy sector or in the international donor scene (please note: we will consider candidates that do not have specific consultancy experience if they can demonstrate particularly strong sectorial experience).

Report writing skills: Excellent ability and experience in writing detailed reports in French (mother tongue required and English (C1/C2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference and Language skills

Willingness to travel: The role is likely to require regular travel around the world (mainly short-term duration of 1 to 3 weeks per travel).

People management skills: Part of the role requires you to be able to work with a variety of experts to deliver projects on time and to a high quality. This will require excellent people management skills and an ability to ensure individuals are aware of deadlines and on-target to achieve required inputs.

Adaptability: The role entails working in a fast-paced dynamic environment, where a capacity to adapt to an ever-changing setup will be key. This will require the consultant to concurrently manage projects with varying budgets, work across multiple regions and engage with various clients. Adaptability and flexibility to work in intercultural environment, especially in African countries, is required.

Demonstrated IT skills: COFAD completes most of its work in an IT-base way. Candidates will need to be competent in the use of office programs including Word and Excel.

Language skills: Native French speaker required, fluent English and excellent written English skills is a must.
